Our History
Mover a century ago, Ella Caruthers Porter, a single mother near Waco, and Willa S. Benton, a Fort Worth teacher and mother, aimed to ensure every child could reach their potential. Believing in the power of motherhood to boost student success and build better communities, they worked to reform Texas's disorganized public education system despite the societal challenges of the early 1900s. Today Texas PTA is nearly 500,000 members strong!
